I know Hayley Williams' new album came out last summer but I, quite frankly, think it didn't get enough attention. My faves include Mirtazapine, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, and Hard
I implore everyone to listen to The Last Dinner Party. Their most recent album "From the Pyre" is filled of gems. 'The Scythe' is a masterpiece (but better suited for a good cry than a summer anthem). 'This is Killer Speaking', on the other hand, is a true Song of the Summer contender.
Their entire body of work is full of what I consider to be the Songs of the Century.
I'm very lucky to have seen them perform live twice. Their energy and charisma on stage is unrivaled...that is with the exception of a certain Broadway show about a top secret WWII spy operation.
Not a song rec but instead a book one. Have you read The Compound by Aisling Rawle? Surprise hit of a book for me and your comments on Outlast sound very much in the same vein. I think you'd like it, especially after watching Outlast.
Glad to hear you had a lovely time in Cornwall, and thank you for putting the Wallace and Gromit Adventure Golf Experience on my radar!
Thanks also for your recommendations, and as for my own, if you ever are looking for a super short story, check out ‘Silver Lady and the Fortyish Man’. It’s part of a short story collection ‘The Inheritance’ by Megan Lindholm (pen name: Robin Hobb) - all of which are very charming.
Song-wise, perhaps ‘Big Dog’ by The Last Dinner Party (or anything from their ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ album). Ah, this comment has become quite long - hope it helps! Xxx ☀
Dropped some suggestions here earlier before when i somehow didnt register that song of the summer probably should come out this summer. Silly me. And i was racking my brains like what new music am i listening to?? But just came across one- Born To Lose by Bea Miller! (just realized the irony of born to lead --> born to lose)
Ok, so hear me out on this, it is technically a song from last summer, but it is THE Summer Song. It it so joyous + uplifting + full of love + hope + relentless goddamn JOY it is my Summer Song for the second year in a row. And, more to the point, having now heard it LIVE, yes actually LIVE...(I have not been out in a while...because of work related reasons, which I know you will understand) I can confirm it does indeed deserve the highly regarded spot of The Song of the Summer. For God's sake...there was an on stage marriage proposal right after. What more evidence could you need?! The song is, Dancing2 by Keli Holiday.
Muchas Gracias, Merci, Hvala lepa, for yet another wonderful Substack. ♥️🫶🏻
I definitly recommend the album Viva Hinds by Hinds its perfect for summer. As always i loved reading your funny recs, thanks for sharing jerry the parrot with your rabid followers!
Certainly can’t get past if there’s a parrot in there, and I think there is
When you know you know
Joy by Raye has got to be in there for song of the summer (it’s from the summer season of her album) and it’s got me in a chokehold
One cannot be sad when listening to Joy by Raye. It’s literally impossible.

I hopped on here to recommend The Last Dinner Party. They are exquisite.
Any song by Florence road is my current obsession but specifically 'rabbits can swim', 'miss' and 'storm warnings'
Yes to this! "Rabbits can swim" is such a good cry song. "Hanging out to Dry" is in my summer songs playlist.

Eastside Girls by MUNA has big "Caravan Parrot Girl Summer" energy!! As does Lez Go by G-Flip ft. The Beaches.
Some of you haven't listened to Olivia Rodrigo's The Cure while angry running in the rain and it shows...
(ps. Yo La Tengo always hits for a summer bop)
Lunar Park came into my life unexpectedly and left a very big impression. It’s great and it shocks me more people don’t know about it.
Stella by Kathryn Gallagher and Lost Boys by Phoebe Bridgers would have to be my picks for songs of the summer!
